BIOMECHANICAL ASSESSMENTS
From the assessment your podiatrist will discuss with you and individualise a treatment plan for you, such as a combination of stretch and strengthening exercises, strapping and taping, footwear modification, activity modification, soft tissue mobilisation, dry needling, and or soft or firm orthotic prescription.
ORTHOTIC PRESCRIPTION
At Long Jetty and Berkeley Vale podiatry when we issue orthoses we discuss with you and consider what type of orthotic is most appropriate for your foot condition, your preferred footwear choice, your principle activity and your budget. Our orthotics range from soft cushioning devices to semi flexible and semi-custom devices to a complete customised less flexible device for maximum support and control.
PAEDIATRIC ASSESSMENTS
Are an involved assessment assessing the age appropriate milestones, testing joint and muscle range of motion, observing gait, assessing balance and strength and examining the infant or child for any underlying medical conditions. A treatment regime may include strength, muscle and neural stretches, footwear advice and orthotic prescriptions. Referral onto your GP, Specialist or alternate allied health professionals can be arranged if required.
DIABETES ASSESSMENTS
Are a combination of comprehensive neurological and vascular examinations. A Doppler ultrasound is used to listen to the pulses and examine the wave formations through the arteries in your feet and lower legs. Blood pressure at the arm and the great toe are taken and an assessment for healing potential in the toes is calculated. Neurological assessments include fine sensory, autonomic and gross motor examinations. Dermatological (skin, nail ) examinations are also performed.
A comprehensive report is forwarded to your GP and endocrinologist.
LASER SCANNER
Orthotic fabrication. Our practice has recently introduced a laser scanner to accurately take a 3-dimensional image for custom made orthotic fabrication. The image is emailed to our orthotic lab in Melbourne with your individualised prescription where a light weight and low-profile orthoses is fabricated to fit into either sport, work, casual or dress footwear.
DRY NEEDLING
Is a technique based on trigger points and muscle imbalance model. Contractures in deep muscle can be felt with the needle, via feedback on the quality of the tissues that the needle is penetrating. Contracted muscle fibres present resistance to the needle. The initial assessment determines the needling sites, your podiatrists will detect tight muscle bands in affected muscles segments for needling. Following the needling, physical signs such as: shortening, muscle spasm/guarding and tenderness can disappear in seconds or minutes. More chronic conditions may take several sessions to treat.
FALLS ASSESSMENTS
Sometimes as we age or if we have a neurological condition our balance can become compromised. Instability often combined with poor eyesight and reduced muscle strength will put one at risk of falling. Our podiatrist are trained in assessing you for the risks of having a fall and will individualize a treatment regime to reduce your risk of falling.
FOOTWEAR ASSESSMENTS
Whatever your activity our team of podiatrists knows your shoes best.
Our podiatrist provide advice on work and safety shoes, including Work Health and Safety compliant recommendations.
Sporting shoes; netball, football, running, cross trainers, golf, tennis and gym, just to name a few, have specific qualities for the specific actions involved in your chosen sport. Your podiatrist is well equipped with the know how on what to prescribe to suit your foot type to your activity.
Orthopaedic shoe prescriptions and referrals for customised footwear is available for difficult and deformed feet.
Our podiatrists are contracted by the Department of Veterans Affairs and footwear prescriptions can be provided.
School shoe advice; what shoe is suitable for your growing child’s foot type, with the individual child’s needs to be considered to promote optimum positioning for growth, stability and their activities.
INGROWING TOE NAIL TREATMENT
Ingrowing toenails can be very painful and can limit your involvement in physical activities. Our podiatrists are experts at removing your painful ingrowing toenail. Our podiatrist will discuss with you what your best options are, whether you require a short conservative treatment or a partial or total nail removal under a local anaesthetic.
FUNGAL NAIL TREATMENTS
Fungal nail infections are one of the most common nail issues that our podiatrists treat every day. Our podiatrists will painlessly remove or reduce the infected nail plate and prescribe appropriate antifungal nail lacquers.

Our more recent arrivals are the specialised diabetic shoes, designed with maximum comfort and depth within the shoe and they are constructed from lightweight materials. Both ranges are made with leather uppers and insoles, the improved injection moulded synthetic soles provide superior cushioning.
