LONG JETTY & BERKELEY VALE PODIATRY

Long Jetty Podiatry was established in 1984, Claire Bird joined the practice in 1988 and became the principal podiatrist in 1991. The business quickly grew from a one podiatrist practice to a multi practitioner facility. In 2009 the business expanded and a second practice was opened Berkeley Vale. The practice could now provide care for clients from the local areas and west to Mardi and Jilliby and as far north as Swansea. Our five podiatrists are very experienced and have special interests in various areas of clinical and academic podiatry studies. The wide and varying scope of podiatric fields practiced by our podiatrist allows us to place you with the best podiatrist for your individual needs.

Claire Bird graduated from the Institute of Technology, Sydney in 1984 she practiced in private practice and for the Inner West Area health services before moving to the Central Coast. Claire joined Long Jetty Podiatry in 1988 and became the principle podiatrist in 1991. Claire has extensive experience and knowledge in all aspects of podiatry, and has a special interest in biomechanics, paediatric conditions, sports injuries and workplace injuries. Claire’s keen interest in biomechanics, that is the science of human movement, developed as an adolescent when she was a gymnast and competed at a state level. As an adult Claire has enjoyed participating in middle distance fun runs, playing touch football, basketball and netball. She now plays tennis, bushwalks and loves to ski. Claire’s keen interest in sport has given her a good grounding in the needs of the athlete at both an elite and amateur level.
Throughout Claire’s children’s growing years she has had extensive involvement with local and representative sporting teams and associations. They include Bateau Bay Dolphins Netball, Wyong Representative Netball, Gosford Gymnastics and Mingara Little Athletics. 
In 2003 Claire accompanied Gosford Gymnastics team to Portugal for the World Gymnaestrada as the team podiatrist. Claire has also accompanied the Wyong representative netball teams to numerous state competitions providing on and off court podiatry treatment.
Claire has stepped down from her position as Clinical Supervisor for The Newcastle University School of Podiatry, however she is still involved in and has an interest in student education. The practice hosts several podiatry students for their external placements each year, providing each student with a valuable insight into podiatry with the team of well experienced podiatrists.
